Norwegian Trollman (wizard) - Witches and others who might understand these things, what do you think?
Has anyone heard of a Trollman? Not to be mistaken with a Troll. Aparently it was a real person in Norway years ago who was in direct connection with evil spirits. It is believed there was one in every valley. There was one in my family around 1500 who had a spell book and would take payment to cast spells on other people and clans.
His name was Ramse (pronounced rahm-za). Do you believe this could be true? My family is SURE it is true.

In the worldview of your Norse ancestors, soul and body were not seen as separate; IOW, things like astral projection and so forth were unheard of, and the burial mound itself was seen as the ultimate destination of the dead. However, they were aware that certain OTHER people could "send" their souls out from their bodies, and thought it was an immensely powerful magic.
Those people were the Finns, or Saami, from whose language the word "shaman" is borrowed. Because they lived in frozen lands, and probably because they *looked* different, the Norse called them "trolls." But, sometimes you need a shaman, lol . . . eventually, some of the Norse learned shamanism and magic from the Saami, adding it to their own traditions of runework and charms and so forth. These people became known as "trollmen."
So, "trollman" is simply a Norse colloquialism for shaman, magic worker, or sorceror.
They were very real, as near as I can tell. The Sagas are full of references to them, and there are certain burial sites where it is utterly, unmistakeably obvious that people had gone to a LOT of trouble to make sure the deceased stayed put.
